Standardization of ward/district naming

Hello! For anyone who wishes to contribute, I am trying to make sense of the new ward/district naming convention following the plan to arrange and merge administrative units in Vietnam 2024–2025. I would appreciate any comment at Talk:Hoàng Mai, Hanoi#Standardization of ward/district naming, cheers! Johnson524 19:24, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Johnson524 The proposed changes are: 1) merging a bunch of first-level divisions (provinces), reducing their number by half; 2) eliminating all second-level divisions (districts, provincial cities); 3) merging a bunch of third-level divisions (wards, communes, townships, etc.), reducing their number by 70%. The new wards might have the same names as their former districts, but they only contain a portion of it, they should not be considered the same thing and should be different entities.
